So now, since February 2023, there is the new – paid – “Teams Premium” or “Teams Essentials” with interesting new features that can be helpful, for example, for personalized or confidential meetings and for webinars. The free Teams version is “Free Teams”, which offers a reduced range of features. But is it possible to switch to it without losing data?

Microsoft’s new paid Teams undeniably offers a number of new features that are beneficial in day-to-day business. But that should not be the topic here. We want to explore the question of what you can do if you don’t want to switch to the paid Teams (yet), but want to use the free “Free Teams” for now. In this case, the data transfer does not happen automatically, so you must take action yourself by April 12, 2023 in order not to lose any data!

When the previous “classic” Microsoft Teams is discontinued, you can sign up for the new free Teams. In this case, you must first manually save your existing data in another location and then transfer it to your new Teams account. Here you can find a corresponding guide from Microsoft on how to do this.

If you are interested in the greater functionality of a paid Teams version, such as Teams Essentials or Microsoft 365 Business Basics, we will be happy to advise you on which version is best for your situation.
