Inour last blog article we answered questions about working with files in Microsoft Teams. But in order to efficiently use Teams as a platform for collaboration, it makes sense to also deal with folders, tabs and channels. We answer some questions here:

FOLDER

How do you set in OneDrive/SharePoint that newly created or renamed folders in a Teams channel are automatically synchronized?

If you set the entire library to be synchronized regularly, newly created or renamed folders in OneDrive or SharePoint will also be included.

Can I have my personal space and the space shared with my team in two different local folders in OneDrive?

Yes, in the File Explorer view, these areas are displayed separately.

TABS

Is there a setting in Teams to open the Files tab or a self-added SharePoint tab in a channel by default?

Currently (March 2021) there is no such setting.

Is it possible to set up an additional tab that is added automatically in all channels of a team?

Tabs are set up per channel. Only the two tabs “Posts” and “Files” are automatically created for all channels, but then show channel-related communications and files. A tab added in a channel only appears in that channel. An automated creation of the same tab for all channels of a team is possible using an automation script (Microsoft Flow or PowerShell).

CHANNELS

I deleted a channel and now I want to create a new channel with the same name. However, Teams does not allow this on the grounds that the channel name has already been taken. What can I do?

After deleting a channel, the assignment and storage of the channel name in teams is retained. As a workaround, you must first restore the deleted channel in the team administration, rename it and delete it again. The old name can then be used again.

For future deletions, the respective channel should be renamed before deleting it.
